Science Coach Virtual

Science Coach Virtual is a year-long science research class for exceptional 6th-12th grade students who want to conduct advanced authentic research with the guidance of an experienced coach.

It’s designed for motivated students with a strong interest in scientific research who don’t have a research class at their school. The class is built around completing a high-level, self-led research project to enter into science competitions. Each student
selects their own research topic, creates the hypothesis, develops the methodology, conducts the testing, writes the report and presentation, and enters at least one competition.

Science Coach Virtual Overview

  • Weekly one-hour class begins in mid-August and goes through May.
  • Students complete online lessons, participate in virtual classroom activities, and engage in one-on-one communication to assist them as they develop their research project.
  • Lessons are directly tied to a student’s personal research projects. This use-inspired research opportunity increases the relevance to the student.
  • College Credit, 3 hours, is available.
  • The Science Coach teacher provides:
  • Counsel on research topics selection
  • Assistance with research design
  • Help with technical questions
  • Live project assistance
  • Oversight of student progress with support from the parent/adult in charge.
  • Assistance with accessing professional mentors.
  • Access to materials inventory list and loaner equipment.
  • Science Coach provides insurance for students to potentially acquire access to labs close to them.
  • Research curriculum and student activities are provided in the Canvas learning management system,including the mobile app.
