The Science Coach mission is to support diverse 6th – 12th grade students and teachers to experience the excitement of authentic research.

Science Coach exists to give diverse 6th-12th graders a transformative opportunity to become STEM professionals by experiencing success completing authentic research and engineering innovation.

How Science Coach Supports Equity in STEM

1. Respect for Students’ Lived Experiences: We support student autonomy and empower student voice and choice in the projects they pursue.
2. Personal Relevance: Students pursue learning about a topic they care about and is personally relevant.
3. Representation: Student-facing curriculum disrupts stereotypes by including 85% traditionally marginalized persons in science (scientists of color and women).
4. Educator Training: Teachers receive initial and ongoing training on stereotypes, implicit bias, and how to recruit and retain STEM students of color.
5. Increase Access: Both synchronous and asynchronous materials and Science Coach programs are available to students across the country; urban, suburban and rural, public, private and home schooled. Students can elect to participate on their own, they do not need the permission of a school.
6. Mentorship and Engagement: Students are mentored by and engage with industry professionals to help expand their networks and build social capital and experience.
7. Universal Design Features: Student online curriculum includes accessibility support for students with disabilities such as the ability to print pages.
