Become a Science Coach!

Science Coach exists to make sure teachers are trained, supported, resourced, and energized to inspire future innovators through advanced authentic research.

We take the traditional sports team approach and apply it to the STEM arena with an experienced Head Coach sharing and supporting their 5 Teacher Coach team members. This proven professional development (PD) ecosystem excites and empowers 6th – 12th grade STEM teachers to coach students to complete advanced authentic research projects for entry into science fairs or other competitions, with some continuing into our Innovation to Entrepreneurship Pathway.

Year-long, job-embedded PD and mentorship.
Research teachers become a cohort team tapping into a national network of accomplished colleagues and mentors. Drawing from their Head Coach’s expertise, our annual conference (now called Science Coach Academy), and monthly PD sessions, teachers grow in skills and confidence to take students to the next level.

Free access to research methodology instructional resources.
Advanced Innovation Methodology (AIM) Teacher is detailed lessons supporting advanced authentic research instruction. AIM Student is a self-directed, online advanced authentic research instruction. Access to this rigorous research methodology saves teachers prep time while engaging students in hands-on project-based learning (PBL). Teaching PBL with AIM Teacher makes in-person teaching easier and AIM Student is vital when teaching remotely.

Flexible program implementation and access.
Implement Science Coach in existing classes, as a dedicated research class, or as an extracurricular activity. It works in public, private, and home-schools across rural, urban and suburban areas. Learning becomes more equitable when teachers and students get expanded support when and where they need it.

Proven step-by-step process to create competition-worthy projects.
Clear objectives and timelines guide the research program to successful completion. Teachers coach students—from choosing their own topic to completing advanced authentic research—achieving and celebrating milestones along the way.

Comprehensive resources of high-tech lab access, equipment, and Intellectual Property (IP) protection.
Extend the standard science classroom by either borrowing equipment, working in our BSL1&2 labs, or using the Science Coach insurance to reduce the liability barrier often experienced at a local lab. Projects with IP potential join our Innovation to Entrepreneurship Pathway. Expand project topics while protecting student ideas.

Professional compensation for teachers.
Teachers are treated as professionals, recognized and paid for personal time spent coaching STEM students. Teachers receive extra-duty/extra-pay compensation, or a $2,000 stipend for their time spent coaching students outside of the school day. Two graduate-level credits are available upon program completion.

Testimonials

Upon completion of the Science Coach summer PD training week, “That was the first time since my first year of teaching that I did a full program of PD where the “course” was worth it from start to finish.”
JASON KESSELRING, TEACHER COACH, St. Louis Public Schools

“Working with research students is, hands down, the most rewarding part of my job. I want to make sure that students continue to have opportunities to showcase their work, earn scholarships, and meet other kids doing the same types of things that they are. Science Coach provides a great framework for teachers who are new to student research, and much support, both through curriculum and finances.”
– JENNIFER HESS, TEACHER/HEAD COACH, Wentzville R-IV School District

“I have students working in a research lab who would not have been able to without the insurance that Science Coach provides.”
– CHRIS REEVES, TEACHER (Retired)/HEAD COACH, Camdenton R-III School District

“My students have persevered even when they have had setbacks. I think teaching this perseverance is one of the best things about Science Coach.”
– PAM WAMSLEY, HOME SCHOOL TEACHER/HEAD COACH, Timber Ridge Scholars Academy

“My students have advanced in their overall level of understanding of the scientific method and their precision on collecting and analyzing data.”
– SCOTT KIRKMAN, TEACHER COACH, Twin Rivers R-X School District

Students Say…

“The most important thing I have learned about myself is that I am capable of doing amazing things as long as I put my mind to it.”

“I learned that making mistakes is an inevitable part of the scientific process and not a personal failure. I’ve learned that being adaptable is a good quality.”

“I knew I was interested somewhat in immunology, but doing this project made me realize that this type of research is something I want to do long term.”
